About

Our mission statement

Progressive Women: Enabling, inspiring, and supporting women to achieve their full potential.
We organise networking, training and discussion events to support women, whatever their ambition. We aim to empower women to become leaders in whatever role they take on in both their professional and personal lives.

Who we are

Progressive Women is a charity run entirely by volunteers. We are lucky enough to work with many individuals who generously give up their time to help us with our events, activities and website. We were founded in 2009 by Mary Hough, Brooke Flanagan and Caroline Watson. Current Directors are:

Caroline Watson, Director @CarolineSWatson
Caroline works for a non-profit company where she leads on transport environmental policy and strategy. Previously, Caroline worked as a policy advisor at the Environment Agency and prior to that as a researcher in the House of Commons. She is passionate about equality, justice and politics. < caroline@progressivewomen.org.uk>

Lucy James, Director @lucyjames01
Lucy joined Progressive Women in July 2010. She works at a public affairs and communications company, where she leads on the transport accounts. Prior to this, she was a research fellow at Quilliam, a counter-extremism think tank, where she is now an adjunct fellow. She also sits on the board for the Centre for Secular Space, an organisation that works to promote women’s human rights and counter fundamentalism. She is passionate about speaking out against the detrimental impact that religious extremism can have on women’s rights.

Emma Ward, Director @gingeratwork
Emma joined the Progressive Women committee in January 2012, and had previously been a regular attendee of our events. She is currently working for a charity as a family engagement worker, supporting adults affected by someone else’s addiction. She has previously worked as a support worker for female sex workers, adults with addictions and in drug and alcohol policy. She is passionate about women supporting and learning from each other in order to reach their full potential.
Progressive Women wouldn’t be where we are today without a fantastic committee of women volunteers: So thanks to Binita Mehta, Nicole Rowe, Anna Chatburn, and Emma Mckay.
