About us

Progressive Women is a feminist organisation that strives towards achieving equality between women and men in society and politics. We believe in the critical need to increase the proportion of women in Parliament and in local and regional councils, but also within the business sector and workplaces more broadly.

What we stand for

Progressive Women stands for progress towards: equality of political representation; equality in the economy and in the workplace; equal influence and power for women in British society. We are pro-choice. We are not related to any political party. We actively encourage the involvement of men within our organisation and the feminist movement as a whole.

What we do

Progressive Women works to achieve these aims by supporting and helping women to develop the requisite knowledge, skills and networks in order to raise their ambitions and succeed in competitive, often male-dominated, environments. We hope to achieve this through discussion and networking events, practical skills-based workshops, facilitating mentoring relationships, and through thought-provoking blogs on our website.

Who we are

Progressive Women is a voluntary organisation run entirely by people in their spare time. We are lucky enough to work with many individuals who generously give up their time to help us with our events, activities and website. Currently, Progressive Women’s key facilitators are:

Caroline Watson
Caroline co-founded Progressive Women in March 2009. She works for a non-profit company where she leads on transport environmental policy and strategy. Previously, Caroline worked as a policy advisor at the Environment Agency and prior to that as a researcher in the House of Commons. She is passionate about equality, justice and politics. < caroline@progressivewomen.org.uk>

Lucy James @lucyjames01
Lucy joined Progressive Women in July 2010. She is currently working as a campaign coordinator for a Westminster-based communications company. Prior to this, she was a research fellow at Quilliam, a counter-extremism think tank, where she is now an adjunct fellow. She is an active anti-fascist (both far-right and Islamist), particularly in relation to women, as well as being interested in gender equality more broadly.
