You may have noticed that very few films have a female dominated cast, although it’s only too normal to see films with a [...] A couple of weeks ago UK Feminista hosted a fabulously original fundraising event called Women’s Words. There was an array of talented women writers who read from their own work and discussed women in literature and the media. I learned a lot that evening and was also thoroughly entertained. We heard readings from Hannah Poole [...] It’s the annual Million Women Rise March on Saturday. Violence against women was one of the issues that came up again and again at our last meeting. Do go along if you are able and show your support for ending violence against women. More info here: http://www.millionwomenrise.com/ A great meeting last night and a lively debate covering a whole specturm of issues around the portrayal of women in the media – from the issues of air-brushing and body image, to ageism on television and the role that advertisers and commissioners of television can play in how the women, we see on [...] At the meeting on Tuesday, both Beatrice and Caroline talked about electoral reform and the introduction of a form of proportional representation (PR) in the voting system as one way which could increase the numbers of women in Parliament.
